Our Careers Department is dedicated to helping students gradually plan for life after school. The Careers Room is located by the Chapel - always open to students to seek out information on any career pathway they are interested in. Below is an outline of the guidance provided to students throughout their time at Verdon College.
The Real Game - a game where students learn about the cost of living and costs such as tax, mortgages, budget, expenditure and incomes. Students are introduced to an online tool called CareerQuest to provide future career ideas (link below).
SIT Career Taster Day - getting an introduction to a tertiary institution and experiencing the trades, technology courses and options available at Southern Institute of Technology
NCEA Information Evening for parents and students in Term 1. One on one interviews are conducted with all students to discuss future career pathways. The Year Level Google Classroom is a resource that is utilised to provide information about Career options. Students get an opportunity to try My Career Match, a programme where students answer questions about themselves and find out career pathways that match their interests. Students get to go to Career Fest at ILT Stadium to meet with industry and educational providers.
One to one interviews - information and resources about trades, polytechnics and university study. Discussion about subject choice and requirements for career pathways.
One to one interviews, Practice Interview Skills, CV guidance, Information about Employment opportunities, Meetings with University Liaison Officers and Course Confirmation, University Polytechnic Open Days. Students are given communication links and are encouraged to seek advice about any career information via Google Classroom or emails with Mrs More.
