Academic Approach

At Verdon College we believe in extending our students academically. Our programmes are designed to allow all students to demonstrate and extend their special gifts and talents. All students are engaged in a broad-based curriculum which draws from all the essential learning areas. This broad base, while developing students in all areas, allows the students to make better-informed choices in the subjects they wish to specialise in at the senior levels.

Religious Education is studied by all students at all levels and reflects the special character of Verdon College. We believe in fostering a desire for lifelong learning for our students. We recognise the importance of working with our families and students to ensure that the most appropriate academic programmes are followed. Beyond the classroom we have a well-supported wider curriculum which offers a range of activities in the Sports, Arts and Christian Service.

Our success is borne out in the results achieved at NCEA level, with Verdon College continuing to be one of the top performing schools in Southland in terms of NCEA achievement. This achievement comes from the well-rounded educational experiences on offer, the high aspirations we have for our students, and the support provided for all students by a dedicated teaching staff.
